Gerard Harkin
Head of Innovation
With twenty-five years' experience in innovation in both consulting and commercial roles, an MBA and a degree in engineering, Gerard is a specialist in innovation and growth.
He has worked with organisations of all sizes in over a dozen industries, building new propositions, businesses and products, enhancing business models, and facilitating innovation workshops with his practical and down-to-earth approach. |
Gerard is one of the few commercially savvy innovation consultants with experience across a dozen industries, and exposure to all stages of the innovation process, from invention to building business cases, product launch and growth strategy.
Clients have included: Johnson Matthey, L&G, Wood Group, ESB, E.ON, O2 Ireland, Novo Nordisk, Kraft, Rentokil Initial, Renault F1, Silansys, Macmillan Cancer Support and Failte Ireland.
Before starting 3inno in 2013, he held senior roles at two innovation consultancies in London and had a long career in the high-tech industry, where he lived and worked in the UK and the Netherlands (and still speaks a bit of Dutch!).
He is heavily involved in supporting innovation in the Brighton area. For example, he has been a visiting lecturer on innovation management for the University of Brighton’s MBA program since 2008, and he is a guest blogger for Brighton Business School. For the past six years, he has mentored young entrepreneurs at Brighton College. He also formed the Brighton Innovation Network which is a forum for senior NPD/R&D/Innovation managers to share learning and discuss innovation.
Gerard is the author of Innovation Unplugged. Blending case studies from Philips, Dyson, Zipcar and Rolls-Royce, Innovation Unplugged provides practical advice on how innovation can power new growth. Gerard is also well-known for his contributions to other best-selling books, as well as writing over 100 articles on how to innovate successfully. He is the co-inventor of fourteen US patents for technology.
His latest venture, Innovation Confessions, was launched in July 2017. Innovation Confessions invites people to share lessons learned from innovation projects http://www.innovationconfessions.com/
Originally from Dublin, he moved to Brighton in 1996 where he lives with his wife and son.
